“Sometimes people hold a core belief that is very strong. When they are presented with evidence that works against that belief, the new evidence cannot be accepted. It would create a feeling that is extremely uncomfortable, called cognitive dissonance. And because it is so important to protect the core belief, they will rationalize, ignore and even deny anything that doesn’t fit in with the core belief.” — Frantz Fanon (Black Skin, White Masks)

More Truth. Truth that can be applied in SO many directions.

There is nothing more difficult than not deceiving oneself… it applies to everyone even it your aware of how your mind filters things and try to be rational it is simply easier and faster to go with your previous knowledge.  In some cases not reacting based off previous knowledge could be deadly, so it’s no wonder we’re wired this way.  It causes problems however in our modern world as there are so many new things that we’re exposed to daily.  So the question becomes how do you determine what is “true” and what isn’t if you can’t trust your core assumptions.
