A fearsome discussion

Lets talk about fear the things that bump in the night, the unknown and unknowable.

Why do you fear a thing? Why is it that people fear a plane but not the hardening arteries that are enclosing their heart, threatening to pierce and drain the life from one… forever.

The answer is the same as why we have bloody monstrosities on our news rather than the silent helping hands that are everywhere.

We fear the grandiose and exceptional… like being bitten by a shark… a gruesome end, but so rare, and is it any less gruesome than ones body turning traitor in malignant growths of cancer?

We like to think we are rational… we’re not… We can strive to be rational, fair and just… but we’ll always fail as we like the universe aren’t rational fair or just.

So why am I bringing this up a taste of fear, the underside of what humans are, the subtle prod in our minds that make us do things we know aren’t good, fair or just?

I’m mentioning it because we can always check our fears, We can always throw back the curtains of ignorance to banish the shadows of fear in the harsh light of rationality.

We can be better than being afraid of what we don’t know of the rare things, because there are certainly enough common things, known things to be afraid of.

I won’t be wasting my time being afraid of figments, angels, devils or gods.  I only have so much life to live and I refuse to live it in fear, in the dark begging for something or someone to save me.

I will save m’self thank you very much.
