It discribes what I’m not…

I don’t have to be a proud atheist

I don’t have to be a pretentious atheist

I don’t have to be a rational atheist

Atheism describes what I’m not

I’m not a fallower

I’m not going to be told

I’m not going to be quiet

It describes what I’m not

it doesn’t describe that I’m a sucker for romantic comedies

or that I cry every time I read a tale of two cities

it doesn’t let you know anything about me

it doesn’t let you know that I’ll stay up all night tweeting like mad giggling like a mad fool

it doesn’t let you know that I’ve only ever fallen in love and never out

so you’ve said I should kill m’self for something I’m not

well I’m not

and I shouldn’t

and you shouldn’t

but maybe you just never learnt that people are more than the labels attached to them

The labels mean something but they don’t mean everything

I am not a word

I am not a name

and I will not go away if you simply become belligerent

and maybe that’s the point

humanity isn’t going to desert either you or me

no matter how vile or uncharitable

our choice is how we want humanity to be

I choose questioning, brilliant and forever looking forwards

And I can’t even quantify what you want
